Fathead Records Releases

THE STORY OF FATHEAD RECORDS

Fathead Records was born in 1996 out of an abundance frustration. The idea that my then husband and I had no record label interest was more than I was willing to tolerate.  That, combined with my view at the time (which I still hold), that he is one of the most talented living American Roots songwriters of our time. I felt strongly that his writing simply needed to “be heard” by more people and I knew what that meant. Controla tu destino…

Simply put, the whole thing was insanity to me.  So rather than continue to tolerate the intolerable, after much discussion, we moved forward, selecting a batch of his strongest material. We began the recording process with the intention of releasing an album of original songs that all the world could hear.

The recording process took a year, a lot of push and pull, countless favors and immeasurable grace from our many friends, musicians, engineers and studio owners to finally come up with Fathead #1001 IT TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE - released in 1997.  A stunning collection of 13 original songs that to my ear has stood the test of time and as such.  That recording is now out of print (for now). I will say more about that another time, but right now just know that this was the beginning of Fathead Records.

Since that time, I have put out 3 more releases on the label.

A re-issue of my first recording (initially put out on cassette!!!) MORE THAN LIVE  FH#1006 and then ORIGINAL FH#1005 and now HARD TO KILL FH #1007.

These days, the business of music is more unstable than I have ever seen it in my 46+ years

of being a musician.

Of course this totally reinforces the need and desire to be fiercely and unapologeticly independent as an artist with her own label.

I am happy and proud to say that Fathead Records has continued to help fulfill that need.

Stay tuned for more from Fathead Records… you’ll be glad you did!

Love,

Janiva
